MEAN WELL finds a sustainable future in Amsterdam Airport City

For global power supply manufacturer MEAN WELL, the Amsterdam Airport City (Haarlemmermeer) region Area is more than a strategic business location. It is a place where international connectivity, sustainability ambitions and long-term partnerships come together. From its expanding European operations in this region, the Taiwanese company is building towards a future focused on reliable energy solutions, responsible growth and lasting partnerships.

Founded in 1982, MEAN WELL has grown into one of the world’s leading power supply manufacturers, serving sectors ranging from industrial automation and LED lighting to medical technology and renewable energy systems. Today, the company ranks among the global market leaders in its industry and supplies more than 10,000 power solutions worldwide.

A company built on “good intentions”

For Coleman Liu, General Manager of MEAN WELL Europe, the company’s philosophy remains the foundation of its international success. “The name MEAN WELL literally stands for ‘good intentions’,” he explains. “That philosophy influences how we work every day, internally with colleagues, and externally with customers and partners.”

Trust and long-term collaboration are central to the company culture. “Almost 90% of our European business is built with partners we have worked with for more than 30 years,” says Liu. “We trust each other, and we grow together.”

This philosophy of reliable partnerships continues to shape the company’s future ambitions. MEAN WELL aims to further strengthen its European network, expand collaboration in sustainable energy markets and continue investing in long-term relationships built on trust, continuity and shared responsibility. Reliability, according to Liu, is not only about products, but also about people and partnerships.

Why Amsterdam Airport City is the right fit

That long-term perspective also played an important role in MEAN WELL’s decision to further expand within Amsterdam Airport City. After outgrowing its current location, the company started searching for a future-proof site that aligned with its operational and sustainability ambitions. The new location in the President business park in Haarlemmermeer proved to be a natural fit.

“The location is ideal for us,” says Liu. “It is close to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, directly connected to major highways and well positioned for logistics between Rotterdam, Schiphol and the rest of Europe.”

The accessibility of the region is particularly important for an international company that regularly hosts distributors, customers and seminars from across Europe. At the same time, the sustainability ambitions of the area closely matched MEAN WELL’s own ESG strategy.

During discussions about the new development, ambitions around green buildings and energy efficiency immediately resonated with the company’s vision. “We want the new building to be energy efficient, greener and future-ready,” Liu explains. “That fits perfectly with our own sustainability goals.”

Sustainability beyond technology

Sustainability at MEAN WELL goes beyond technology alone. The company actively involves employees in local social initiatives and volunteer programmes across the local region. Together with local organisations, employees participate in projects ranging from elderly care and support for people with disabilities to initiatives focused on refugees, recycling and climate awareness.

“We believe it is important to contribute locally. Not only through sponsorships, but by involving our employees directly in volunteer work and community initiatives.”

Looking ahead, MEAN WELL expects sustainable energy solutions to become an even more important part of its European growth strategy. The company is investing in technologies related to renewable energy, smart energy management and battery storage systems, all areas that align with the region’s ambitions around sustainability and innovation.

A new chapter in Haarlemmermeer

As MEAN WELL continues to grow in Europe, the company views Amsterdam Airport City as a long-term strategic partner, a place where international business, sustainability and innovation reinforce one another.

On 4 June 2026, MEAN WELL marked an important next step in that journey with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new European headquarters in Haarlemmermeer. The event brought together international distributors, regional partners and local representatives to celebrate the future development of the company in Amsterdam Airport City, and the continuation of a business philosophy built on good intentions, reliable partnerships and long-term relationships.
