Stichting MeerGroen

Stichting MEERGroen is a volunteer-based organisation that has been working since 2014 on adding to the natural environment and biodiversity in public spaces. Among other things, they create orchards, wildflower meadows, vegetable gardens, and green urban spaces. They also organise educational activities and manage urban forests and neglected areas. With their projects, they improve the natural environment and actively involve residents in making their environment greener.

  • Make a donation in kind or in cash

Stichting MEERgroen always appreciates donations, whether in cash or in kind, using them to create new insect hotels, nest boxes, orchards and play areas. There is room for a maximum of 10 people at a time for donations in kind.

  • Contribute your own ideas on a social project

Companies can put their teams to work on Stichting MEERgroen projects for a day or at least half a day. There is a choice of 25 types of project, each with 10 activities, spread over the year. SchuldHulpMaatje Haarlemmermeer

One in five people in Haarlemmermeer struggle to make ends meet. Money problems often arise following major life changes, such as divorce or losing a job. SchuldHulpMaatje Haarlemmermeer helps residents with money worries. Volunteers provide personal guidance, free of charge and without judgement. They help people to get a grasp of their finances and prevent or resolve debt-related issues. With the support of businesses, SchuldHulpMaatje will be able to continue doing this important work and reaching more residents.

  • Pay for a course or a study programme and make a difference

SchuldHulpMaatje Haarlemmermeer has PBO status and every buddy is an unpaid volunteer. Donations make a big difference.

For example, donate €475 to enable SchuldHulpMaatje Haarlemmermeer to train a new volunteer to become a buddy. This is important because debt-related enquiries rose by more than 40% in 2025, meaning that new SchuldHulpMaatjes will have to be trained.

Alternatively, you could pay for a course or training programme to enable people to find new jobs and extricate themselves from financial difficulties.

  • Help make forms relevant to local residents

The potjes-check [benefits check] is an online tool. People can use it to see at a glance which benefits and schemes they might be entitled to. SchuldHulpMaatje Haarlemmermeer wants to make the potjes-check relevant to local residents. This will enable Haarlemmermeer residents to see exactly which schemes or grants are applicable to them in this municipality. It will also enable them to apply for the schemes straightaway.

    Help SchuldHulpMaatje Haarlemmermeer with PR

SchuldHulpMaatje Haarlemmermeer would really benefit from the help of a PR professional to raise awareness of the organisation and improve its socials.

MeerBomenNu

MeerBomenNu is committed to saving and transplanting saplings. These are seedlings that stand little chance of growing into mature trees, for example because they are too close together. These saplings are transplanted to places where they do have room to grow.

Trees play an important role in capturing CO₂. Just one kilogram of wood absorbs around two kilograms of CO₂. In the Netherlands alone, billions of saplings are produced naturally. MeerBomenNu saves those trees and gives them away, free of charge, to people and organisations with space to allow them to grow.

In ten years, a small seedling weighing around 100 grams can grow into a tree producing between 500 and 1000 kilograms of timber. This is equivalent to between 1000 and 2000 kilograms of captured CO₂. In this way, the foundation helps to restore the natural environment and combat climate change.

MeerBomenNu works with thousands of volunteers and operates in multiple countries. It aims to contribute to a greener and stronger future worldwide.

  • Help with harvesting, sorting and bundling

Help MeerBomenNu by harvesting, sorting and bundling seedlings (small saplings). You can do this every day between 1 November and 15 March, at between five and one hundred places each day.  Visit the MeerBomenNu website for details of the locations and put down your name (and those of your team) to help! You can also subscribe to receive an email every Wednesday detailing MeerBomenNu projects of interest to you.

  • Contribute your ideas on opportunities for MeerBomenNu

Contact MeerBomenNu for a one-on-one conversation about opportunities in the Netherlands, Europe and throughout the world. Put your employees and your business to work to build a world that will last another 100,000 years.

  • MeerBomenNu is looking for long-term support from businesses for conservation and environmental projects

The aim is for volunteer work to provide true value, rather than just creating a good image. Businesses can also help by lobbying the press, the House of Representatives and the EU.

The setting up of a European organisation to implement the MeerBomenNu approach is one concrete example. This will enable 30 billion trees to be saved or planted, with the help of 10-20 million volunteers. This is an important part of climate and nature policy.

  • Sponsor a transplanting day

MeerBomenNu organises what are known as transplanting days. On those days, saplings are saved and replanted in places where they can continue to grow.

Organisations, businesses and private individuals can sponsor a full transplanting day for €750. That is enough to cover an entire day, including the costs entailed in organising the day, logistics, location, deployment of volunteers, materials and catering.

The sponsorship money is transferred to Stichting Urgenda, one of the initiators. Stichting Urgenda is a PBO and ensures that the full amount is spent on MeerBomenNu.

Cultureel Centrum Stompe Toren Spaarnwoude

The Stompe Toren in Spaarnwoude has been in existence for nearly 800 years. Today, it is an important cultural monument. Concerts, exhibitions, weddings and other events are held in the tower. Stompe Toren is located in a quiet, green and agricultural area and attracts many visitors. Between May and October, there are activities every Sunday. With the support of businesses, Stompe Toren can be preserved and continue to serve as a venue for culture and special events, as well as somewhere for people to meet.

  • Make a donation in kind or in cash

Make a financial donation of €1,750 (preferably annually) and help to ensure the continued existence of Stompe Toren. They plan to spend your donation on:

  1. Developing activities for young people

Stompe Toren wants to put on special learning activities for young people. Those activities are intended for primary and secondary schools. This requires investments, for example for teaching materials, implementing programmes and announcing the programmes to schools.

As a thank-you for your support, they will mention you on their website, post a Facebook message containing your name and invite you to the annual drinks gathering for sponsors, including a tour.

  2. Continuing to provide space for artists

Various visual artists used to have their studios and exhibit their art in the little church. Stompe Toren aims to give a contemporary feel to this arrangement. The artists in residence project will give artists, young and old, the opportunity to work and exhibit in the tower on a temporary basis.

  3. Ensuring the visibility and awareness of the little church

Stompe Toren also plans to advertise in the media, so that more people in Haarlemmermeer and Kennemerland hear about the cultural programme.

  • Roll up your sleeves

Join in with the big annual deep-clean in April! Volunteers keep the little church spotless, but there is a big deep-clean once a year. The hard stone floor tiles need a thorough scrubbing and to have green soap applied to them, while the kitchen needs a good clean, and so on. Some extra hands are needed for this. The volunteers are not getting any younger, so help is very welcome. The activity runs between 10:00 and 15:00 and includes a real Spaarnwoude lunch, including polder eel, free-range eggs from the farm and medieval Klassjes pastries.

Adamas Centrum

Adamas Centrum is a place for people dealing with cancer. It is somewhere they can come for support, peace and contact with others. This may be because they are ill themselves or recovering, or because they are caring for someone or have lost someone. At Adamas, their stories are heard with understanding and care. More than 70 volunteers organise activities and talks in a warm and homely setting.

Services offered by Adamas Centrum

  • Become a Friend through the Adamas Business Club

Adamas Centrum is a foundation that is wholly reliant on gifts and donations. This support enables them to continue their work and keep helping those affected by cancer. Every contribution, large or small, makes a difference. In addition to one-off donations, businesses can provide support by becoming a Friend of Adamas through the Adamas Business Club. As a Friend, businesses donate a fixed amount every year for three years. As a thank-you, the businesses are welcomed to the breakfast laid on for business people four times a year and are named on our website as a Friend of Adamas. Adamas also organises a joint activity once a year.

  • Join in during the NLdoet national volunteer event

Businesses are also very welcome to roll up their sleeves at Adamas during NLdoet on 13 and 14 March 2026! On 13 March, the organisation will focus on odd jobs in and around the building, including repairs and decorating. On 14 March, they will tackle the garden so that guests will soon be able to enjoy a pleasant, green environment again. You can help for a whole day, but even half a day would be much appreciated.

  • Social Return at Adamas Centrum

If your organisation has an employee who has been affected by cancer because he or she is suffering from it, is supporting a family member or friend or has lost someone to cancer, Adamas is there for you and that employee. Employers and employees are very welcome to contact the foundation with any questions they may have. Staff will be happy to come up with helpful ideas, both for the employee and for the organisation.

Hospice Bardo

Hospice Bardo is a warm and welcoming place for people with terminal illnesses. The organisation provides palliative care that is no longer focused on a cure, but rather on comfort and well-being. Family members and friends also receive support. In this final phase of life, Hospice Bardo focuses its care and attention on what is most important to the patient at that point.

  • Help save for a new special bath for Hospice Bardo residents

Bardo relies on donations from private individuals and businesses to be able to provide additional care for its patients. Through the Friends of Hospice Bardo foundation, those gifts are used for items that are not funded by the standard healthcare system. In 2026, Bardo will be saving for a new special bath for residents. If you would like to help Bardo save for this bath, please contact the hospice.

  • Do voluntary work at Bardo

Hospice Bardo is always looking for new volunteers who would be willing to work on a long-term basis as hosts, carers, gardeners or odd-job men. Anyone who is interested can contact coordinatievrijwilligers@hospicebardo.nl.

Cruquius Museum

The Cruquius Museum tells the story of the draining of the Haarlemmermeer. The pumping station is also known as the ‘Delta works of the 19th century’. During a visit, visitors marvel at the power of 19th-century steam technology and the centuries-long battle against the water. The demonstration of the world’s biggest steam engine is the high point of every visit. Businesses can support the Cruquius Museum in a variety of ways. Examples include donations or voluntary work. Click on the details of what the Cruquius Museum has to offer to discover the options.

  • Help with the building of the connecting walkway between the new pavilion and the pumping station

For example, with a contribution of €2,500 or more, a business can quite literally establish a connection between old and new: the walkway connecting the historical pumping station with the new pavilion. This walkway symbolises the connection between the past and the future and between technology and experience.

Support in kind is also welcome: building engineers or installers can contribute their knowledge and time to identify sustainable solutions or materials for this new walkway.

  • Spend one day working together on heritage

Businesses can organise team days in or around the Cruquius Museum, when their employees will help with the maintenance of the sensory garden, decorating or light building jobs around the new building. A meaningful day outside the confines of the office, when teams make a tangible contribution to a historic site in their own region.

  • Help make Cruquius more sustainable

Businesses can help the museum to make the heritage site future-proof. With a donation or partnership, they can contribute to projects such as:

    • Solar panels on the pavilion’s roof – help the museum to generate its own energy and in so doing reduce CO₂ emissions.
    • Infrared panels in the pumping station – support a sustainable way of heating a historic building.
    • Smart lighting or insulation projects – provide knowledge, materials or time from your own area of expertise.

In this way, businesses can connect their CSR goals (including CO₂, circularity or energy transition) with the preservation of heritage and a piece of technological history.

Fietsmaatjes Haarlemmermeer

The Fietsmaatjes Haarlemmermeer foundation was founded in 2022 by a group of enthusiastic volunteers. The foundation puts people who can no longer cycle on their own (their guests) in touch with volunteers who enjoy going on bike rides together.

The guests cycle alongside a regular volunteer on a three-wheel tandem bike, enabling them to take some outdoor exercise and enjoy personal interaction. This provides fun, relaxation and social connection.

The foundation is run entirely by unpaid volunteers.

  • Help save for a new three-wheeled tandem

Guests and volunteers cycle together on a three-wheeled tandem. The Fietsmaatjes Haarlemmermeer foundation has six three-wheeled tandems and operates from various locations in Haarlemmermeer. The three-wheeled tandems it uses cost €13,000. Donate €1,000 and help save for a new three-wheeled tandem.

  • Help pay for the servicing of the three-wheeled tandems

Donate €500 for the servicing and repair of the three-wheeled tandems. In 2025, the volunteers completed around 1,300 rides with their guests!

Stoomgemaal Halfweg

The Halfweg steam pumping station is the the world’s oldest and biggest still operational scoop-wheel steam-powered pumping station. Volunteers keep the pumping station running smoothly.

The pumping station was built in 1852 and pumped water away for the Rijnland Regional Water Authority until 1977. Along with other pumping stations, it kept much of the western Netherlands dry, including Haarlemmermeer. The steam engine built in 1923 has six scoop wheels capable together of pumping 1.5 million litres of water per minute. The engine runs on steam from a coal-fired boiler.

The pumping station is open to visitors eight weekends a year and really is steam-powered. You will see stokers, engineers, steam and lots of moving water. The pumping station can also be hired for parties, weddings or other events.

  • Support phase 2 of the renovation of the pumping station

Make a financial contribution to the second phase of the renovation of the pumping station. This planned renovation will ensure that the pumping station remains structurally sound for a good many years to come!

The first phase, which was completed in 2024, saw the refurbishment of the engine house. It will be boiler house’s turn in the second phase. To make this possible financially, the pumping station is looking for sponsors and donors. Contributions to pay for certain smaller, necessary expenses can also be made. These include the cost of the coal that has to be purchased each year.

  • Do voluntary work at the pumping station
    • During NLdoet, you can help out with small jobs, such as decorating, to prepare the pumping station for the new steam season.
    • If you have experience in the hospitality industry, you can help sell and serve drinks during steam weekends and parties.
    • You can also help organise special activities, such as Children’s Day, or come up with ideas for fun children’s activities.
    • If you would rather speak about something, you could give a talk during a steam day about heritage or sustainability, for example.

The Heimanshof

The Heimanshof is a native garden in Haarlemmermeer where education on the natural environment, immersion in nature and biodiversity take centre stage. In the garden, you will find the various landscapes of the western Netherlands, along with the associated flora and fauna (700 species). In addition to the landscapes planted with native species, the garden is also home to an orchard, a herb garden, an apiary, a nature playground and greenhouses displaying a range of global climates. Such diversity makes the Heimanshof unique in the Netherlands.

The aim of the Heimanshof is to inspire people to take an active part in making their own environment greener. With that in mind, it provides specific examples in the garden. Every year, 4,500 primary school pupils come for lessons on the natural environment/sustainability. They also welcome 10 to 15 businesses, trainees and many garden-lovers who come to do their bit.

  • Help with renovation work by providing materials and machinery
    • The bridge over the pond in the Heimanshof has become very unstable and needs to be replaced. Materials and machinery are needed for this project.
    • The Heimanshof needs two lorry-loads of marl from South Limburg for the renovation of the Mergelheuvel. Is there a business owner out there who has an empty lorry returning from that area that can bring back two loads?
  • Contribute your own ideas on a social project

The Heimanshof is looking for an adviser who would like to work with them and come up with ideas to carry through a social project in the garden. They are aiming to build a new reception area for schoolchildren, which will also have care facilities (day care for people with early-stage dementia) and serve as a meeting place. They are looking for someone with knowledge of building processes, political processes and an affinity with the natural environment and sustainability.

  • Help out in the native garden for a day

The Heimanshof welcomes businesses that would be willing to spend a day working in the garden. That work would include forest management, major and minor maintenance of the landscapes and small renovation jobs. They also give each group a tour of the beautiful garden as a thank-you.
