- New 12,000 m² logistics center strengthens UPS’s European integrated logistics network
- 24/7 hub brings together freight forwarding, cross-dock, air freight, customs brokerage and cold chain capabilities
- Facility supports time-critical, high-value and temperature-sensitive shipments across specialized industries
UPS today announced the opening of a new logistics center on Airborne Avenue in Hoofddorp. The facility gives customers faster access to integrated, end-to-end logistics services for complex international freight flows and strengthens UPS’s European and global network.
Located near Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the new hub offers direct access to key air cargo routes, major European seaports and transport corridors, as well as UPS’s air hub in Cologne/Bonn and global logistics network. It will support customers across sectors including high-tech, automotive, industrial manufacturing and healthcare.
“The more complex global trade becomes, the more customers of every size need control, visibility and resilience,” said Daniel Carrera, President UPS Europe, Middle East and Africa. “This new Amsterdam gateway helps turn that complexity into control by bringing the strength of our unified approach to customers. As part of our end-to-end global logistics network, this new gateway helps businesses move high-value and time-critical shipments across borders with confidence, while giving our customers a stronger platform to grow internationally and enabling UPS to grow with them.”
“Amsterdam is a natural choice for UPS’s new cross-dock facility. The Netherlands offers a unique combination of world-class logistics infrastructure, excellent international connectivity and a strong ecosystem for high-value, time-critical and specialized logistics, including healthcare”, said Hilde Van Der Meer, Commissioner from the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA). “Investments like this strengthen Europe’s supply chains while further reinforcing the Netherlands’ position as a leading hub for advanced logistics.”
"The new facility is about much more than a new building. It is about investment, innovation, and confidence in the future of international trade. It is also a reminder of the deep and enduring economic relationship between the United States and the Netherlands," said Marcus Micheli, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy The Hague.
Integrated capabilities for critical freight flows
Spanning more than 12,000 m² and offering an annual processing capacity of 45 million kilograms, the new center operates 24/7/365 and provides transportation management, consolidation and deconsolidation, customs brokerage and bonded warehouse services.
The facility supports general freight, temperature-sensitive shipments and dangerous goods. Its advanced cross-dock and air freight services include the build-up and handling of Unit Load Devices (ULDs), including temperature-controlled containers, as well as X-ray screening, regulated agent operations, and dimensioning, weighing and scanning.
UPS previously served customers from a facility in Schiphol-Rijk. The new Hoofddorp site brings key capabilities together under one roof, helping UPS increase operational efficiency while creating additional space to support future customer growth.
Strengthening UPS’s global cold chain network
The new facility is also part of UPS’s global cold chain cross-dock network of 27 facilities, supporting healthcare customers who require precise temperature control, product integrity and reliable transit times.
Its temperature-controlled infrastructure includes 9,680 m² for ambient storage at 15–25°C, 1,730 m² for refrigerated storage at 2–8°C and 330 m² for frozen storage at -20°C. The site also features temperature-controlled docks with airlock systems, re-icing and dry ice handling, and automated temperature monitoring and alarm systems.
Through UPS’s European and global infrastructure, the Amsterdam hub enables healthcare shipments to move through integrated freight flows and complements UPS’s broader logistics footprint, including its healthcare logistics campuses in Venlo and Roermond.
“This site is a strong example of how UPS is building an integrated global network for customers with complex supply chains,” said Susanne Klingler-Werner, President of UPS Supply Chain Solutions EMEA. “For healthcare customers, its compliant cold chain infrastructure helps protect product integrity. For high-tech, automotive and industrial customers, its advanced freight, air cargo and cross-dock capabilities help simplify complex logistics flows and connect more efficiently to European and global markets.”
The site is GDP-compliant and supported by IATA CEIV Pharma, AEO and ISO certifications.
Built with sustainability in mind
In line with UPS’s sustainability goals, the new logistics center is located in a sustainable building with BREEAM-NL Excellent certification and an A+++ energy label. The roof is equipped with approximately 5,500 solar panels, generating around 2 million kWh of renewable energy annually to support daily operations.
